School Policies

Attendance - Absences - Make up Classes

Regular attendance is critical for dance progress and success.  Class attendance is taken each week.  If you have a planned absence, please let us know in advance.  If you are sick or unable to attend class at the last minute, a courtesy call or email prior to class is very much appreciated.  Refunds are not given for missed classes.  Limited make up classes available upon request.

Class Placement

Students grades 3 and younger are placed by age/grade level.  Maine State Ballet prides itself on its personalized schedules to meet the needs for all of our dancers grades 4 and older-which is done according to the following criteria annually:  ability, commitment level, age/grade level, and personal dance needs.

COVID-19 Safety Guidelines

  • Maine State Ballet follows the latest CDC guidelines regarding the coronavirus.

Registered Student Policy Statement

Families must pay for all services rendered to students.  Students cannot register for summer dance camps or the following school year until payment for prior sessions are made in full.

By registering with Maine State Ballet, you give us permission to use your student’s photographs in promotional materials and on our website (no names are used).  If you prefer that we do not use your student’s image, please contact us.

Safe Environment for Dancers

Maine State Ballet follows policies designed to provide a safe environment for students and dancers.  Care is taken to ensure that all students and dancers are given the protections that modesty requires.  Please be aware that some students are allergic to animals.  Please do not bring pets into the building.

Storm Cancelations and Holidays

Families are emailed as soon as we decide to close school (usually it is in the mornings of a snow day).  You may also call the studio at 207-781-7672, and watch news channels 6, 8 & 13 or their corresponding web sites: wcsh6.com, wmtw.com, wgme13.com.  (If you register with some of these sites, they will email/text you cancellation notices.)  We do not observe Monday holidays in order to keep the same number of Monday classes.

Waiver of Liability

Maine State Ballet makes every attempt to provide our students with proper training and a safe environment, but realize that accidents do happen.  Students and their parent(s) and/or guardian(s) assume the risk involved with any injuries that may occur as a result of taking part in a dance class.  Should an injury occur, we will make every attempt to assist with the injury and contact the student’s family.  Maine State Ballet assumes the right to call 911 in the case of serious injury or illness, as well as contacting parent/guardian.

Withdrawal Policy

If a student wishes to drop a class prior to the end of the session, prompt notification is required.  All withdrawals are effective as of the date Maine State Ballet is notified.  Students/families are responsible for tuition until that time.
