Linda MacArthur Miele
Artistic Director Linda MacArthur Miele is a former member of the New York City Ballet, performing throughout Europe and at Lincoln Center. Mrs. Miele worked for nearly a decade with the legendary teacher and choreographer George Balanchine and continues to offer her rare knowledge of the Balanchine Technique® to ballet dancers in Maine. In addition to serving as director and choreographer of the Maine State Ballet Company, Linda Miele has co-directed the affiliated School for the Performing Arts with her husband, Jonathan Miele for the past thirty years.

Placement
Students not currently studying with Maine State Ballet are welcome. Some students may need a placement audition. All students are assigned to a class level each week; these levels change from week to week with enrollment. Summer levels are different than fall placements.
Our objective is to improve technique and strengthen each student. Classes focus on these needs.

Performance
A Student Workshop Performance is given at the end of each week on Friday at 1:30pm in the
Maine State Ballet Theater. All students enrolled are included. There is no admission but seating and parking is limited.
What to Bring
Girls - Water bottle, lunch, money for snack. Black leotard and pink tights for the Friday Performance. For class, girls must wear a black or plain colored leotard and pink ballet tights; short dance skirts are acceptable on occasion. Pink ballet shoes are necessary with pointe shoes if applicable. Jazz pants and shoes are fine for jazz class. Character shoes are useful but
are not necessary. Hair must be pulled back into a bun for all ballet related classes.
Boys - Water bottle, lunch, money for snack. White t-shirt and black tights for the Friday Performance. For class, a white or colored t-shirt may be worn with black tights. Foot tights should be worn with black ballet shoes; ankle length tights should be worn with short white socks and white ballet shoes. Jazz shoes are fine for jazz class.
Do not bring - Shorts, baggy shirts, leg warmers, plastic or wind-breaker pants, wild print leotard or leotards with tutus attached. No shiny tights, no bare legs.
Bottled water & snack machine are available.

Class Curriculum
Technique - Basic ballet techniques essential to dance progression are taught to all levels for 90 minutes every morning
Girls Pointe - Emphasis on strengthening muscles, proper use of feet.
Men’s - Suited particularly to male dancers with focus on jumps, turns and leg strength, as well as weight training.
Variations - For all levels, learn choreography currently in the Maine State Ballet repertoire, as well as classic and historic variations.
Character - Learn styles of dance such as Mazurka and Czardas commonly used in ballet.
Jazz & Modern - Enhancement of ballet technique by teaching freedom of movement and difference of style.
Pirouette, Allegro & Stretch - Focus on techniques which can always use attention and further training.
Performance - Focuses on the finer points of stage presence, dramatic ability and audience awareness.
Partnering - Basic technique and pas de deux work, limited enrollment by invitation.

*8 & 9 year olds are eligible for Week 1, July 5-9, & Week 2, July 12-16, only, and have a condensed and modified version of the Class Schedule.
Class levels may be combined depending on number of registered students. You may register for one or more weeks. Register early to ensure your place. Class size must be limited.
