Maine State Ballet School for the Performing Arts

The Maine State Ballet's School for the Performing Arts offers instruction in ballet, jazz, tap, and musical theater to over 500 students from age 3 through advanced adult. The dance curriculum includes classical ballet training in the Balanchine style® as well as Broadway style tap and jazz. Advanced ballet students are invited to join the Maine State Ballet Company.

Adaptive movement classes are available for children with Down syndrome. Adult programs currently include ballet, tap, jazz, Pilates, Zumba and ballroom.

The school year runs from September through May with classes scheduled Monday - Saturday. With the exception of the three year olds, adult ballet, zumba and adaptive movement, students participate in an end of the year recital.

A six week summer ballet workshop for ballet students ages 8 & up is offered from early July through mid-August. Shorter sessions are held for younger dancers in late June.

Maine State Ballet's instructors are experienced dancers in all disciplines. Many have been trained by Artistic Director Linda MacArthur Miele, a former member of the New York City Ballet. Others received training at Boston Ballet, American Ballet Theater, and with David Howard. Broadway veteran Jonathan Miele directs the tap dance program.
